On June 12, Chicago Tribune released three articles on automatic transfer in Illinois. Interviewing childrem who were automatically transferred to adult court and sentenced to adult prisons from years to life without parole and children who were tried as a juvenile for the same charge, Tribune compares the impacts of the automatic adult trial and juvenile trial, and summarizes the proposed bill HB3718 – a bill to end automatic transfer of children ages 15 or younger and limit automatic transfers of children ages 16-17 to only those who are charged with first degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery with a firearm.
