Juvenile Justice Initiative Is Reimagining Justice for Children and Young Adults

The Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI) is a privately funded non profit organization that advances a vision of a racially equitable and humane system of justice for all children and young adults in conflict with the law in Illinois.

Since 2000, JJI’s research, education and advocacy has created coalitions that have raised the upper age of juvenile court jurisdiction from 17 to 18; ended automatic transfers to adult court for 15-year-olds; led to the creation of Redeploy Illinois, the IL Dept of Juvenile Justice, and the Juvenile Defender Resource Center; reduced the use of pre-trial detention for young children; and expanded the use of restorative justice.
